Saudi Arabia's foreign currency reserves grew 7.2% year-on-year in August 2026, reaching SR1.733 trillion (about $462.15 billion), reflecting continued strength in the Kingdom's external financial position.
The figure marks a clear rise from SR1.616 trillion (about $431.11 billion) recorded in August 2025. On a monthly basis, however, reserves edged down 0.32% from SR1.738 trillion in July 2026, a modest change compared with the strong annual gain.
Foreign currency holdings remain the dominant component of the Kingdom's reserve buffer. Total reserve assets stood at roughly SR1.83 trillion in August 2026, with foreign currency reserves accounting for about 95% of that total.
Why it matters
Robust reserves help support the stability of the Saudi Riyal and give the economy a stronger cushion against external shocks. For residents and businesses, a healthy reserve position underpins confidence in the currency, prices, and the wider financial environment.
The steady annual growth also signals ongoing resilience in the national economy as the Kingdom continues to diversify its income sources under long-term development goals.
