Saudi Instant Transfers Hit SR7 Trillion, Up 26%

The value of instant money transfers in Saudi Arabia climbed to about SR7 trillion in June 2026, a 26.1% increase compared with SR5.5 trillion recorded in June 2025, reflecting the steady shift toward digital payments across the Kingdom.

The growth is powered by Sarie, the national instant payment system owned by the Saudi Central Bank, which moves funds between local banks around the clock, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Sarie is the underlying national rail rather than a standalone consumer app, so residents access it through their own bank's mobile app or internet banking service.

For everyday users, standard instant transfers are allowed up to SAR 20,000. A quick transfer of up to SAR 2,500 can be sent using a proxy identifier — a mobile number, national ID or Iqama number, email, or unified number — without needing to add or activate the beneficiary first.

Fees remain capped and modest. Electronically instructed transfers cost SAR 7 for same-day value and SAR 5 for next-day or forward value. Transfers requested at a branch or by paper instruction cost SAR 25 for same-day and SAR 15 for next-day or forward value.

Breaking down the June 2026 figures, interbank payments accounted for SR5 trillion, customer payments reached SR1.6 trillion, and other transfers totaled SR198.6 billion. For the millions of residents and expats who rely on fast, low-cost transfers to pay rent, split bills, or send money to family, the numbers underline how central instant payments have become to daily financial life in the Kingdom.
