Saudi Sports Clubs Investment Project Details Revealed

The Ministry of Sport has unveiled details of the Sports Clubs Investment and Privatization Project, a plan designed to open Saudi clubs to greater investment and raise their professional and financial standards.

The project runs along two tracks: the first allows corporate and public-sector entities to invest in clubs, while the second focuses on privatizing clubs by offering them to local and international investors. The stated goals include increasing investment in the sports sector, strengthening club professionalism and financial governance, developing infrastructure, and improving the overall fan experience.

Investors begin by registering their interest through the Ministry of Sport's official project channel. Qualified applicants then submit technical and financial offers during the tendering phase. the acquisition process for a specific club generally takes around eight to ten months from the time investor interest is received.

Five More Clubs in 2026

Five additional clubs will be offered in 2026: Al-Riyadh, Abha, Al-Fateh, Al-Tai, and Al-Shoulla. All five have completed the required regulatory procedures and are ready for investor offerings. Prequalification applications for this five-club offering close on 5 July 2026, and applications are submitted through the official website of the National Center for Privatization and PPP.

No public acquisition price, application fee, validity period, or standardized investor charge was announced for these offerings.

For residents and sports fans across the Kingdom, the project signals a longer-term shift toward privately run, better-governed clubs, with the aim of improving facilities and matchday experiences in cities including Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam as the sector continues to grow.
