Saudi Arabia claimed first place at the third International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO 2026), hosted in Jeddah from 2 to 9 August 2026. The Saudi team secured two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze, topping a competition that brought together 19 countries and around 120 students and scientific specialists.
Amjad Mahmoud Issa Al-Darwish won gold and earned the title of "Nuclear Science Ambassador" for achieving the highest combined theoretical and practical score. Jana Saleh Abdullah Al-Sabeel also took gold and received the "Best Female Student" award from the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Abdulaziz Abdulmohsen Al-Sharait added a silver medal to the tally, while Saleh Mubarak Dhef Allah Al-Harbi secured bronze, completing a strong showing across the board.
This edition marked the first time Saudi Arabia hosted the Olympiad and was described as the first edition held in the Middle East. Bringing an international science event of this scale to Jeddah reflects the Kingdom's growing role as a hub for scientific competition and youth talent development.
For families and students across the community, the results are an encouraging sign of the opportunities available to young Saudis in advanced scientific fields, and a reminder of the increasing global visibility of the country's education sector.
