Saudi Team Wins Six Medals at JBOI 2026

The Saudi Informatics Team secured six medals at the 19th Junior Balkan Olympiad in Informatics (JBOI 2026), held in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The results were announced on September 27, 2026, marking the Kingdom's first official appearance at the competition.

The Saudi students earned four silver medals and two bronze medals against strong regional competition. The silver medalists were Fares Yasser Al-Radadi, Hashem Ibrahim Basyouni, Ahmed Mohammed Al-Hussein, and Eyad Emad Al-Khalifa. The bronze medals went to Mohammed Abdulkhaleq Al-Battat and Al-Reem Ali Al-Mutawa.

The event brought together talented students from 13 countries, all competing in problem-solving and programming challenges designed to test analytical and computational skills. The Saudi team took part through the Mawhiba International Olympiads Program, in partnership with the Ministry of Education.

Why it matters

Achieving six medals on a debut appearance reflects the growing investment in nurturing young Saudi talent in science, technology, and computing. Programs that prepare students for global academic competitions are helping build a skilled generation aligned with the Kingdom's broader development goals.

For families across Riyadh, Jeddah, and beyond, the result highlights the expanding opportunities available to students interested in computer science and programming, encouraging more young people to pursue their talents on an international stage.
