Saudia, the national flag carrier of Saudi Arabia, and Garuda Indonesia signed a Joint Business Framework Agreement in late August 2026, marking the next phase of a strategic partnership first announced through a memorandum of understanding in July 2026.
The agreement lays the groundwork for a planned joint business set to launch in 2027, subject to further detailed agreements and regulatory approvals in Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and other relevant jurisdictions. The initiative aims to build a broader travel corridor linking Indonesia and Australia with Saudi Arabia, and onward to destinations across the Middle East, Europe, and Africa served by Saudia.
Under the partnership, both carriers will coordinate network planning and flight schedules on routes between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, with a view to better-aligned timetables and potential new direct routes. The airlines also plan to expand codeshare cooperation and explore single-ticket travel, allowing passengers to combine segments operated by both carriers in one booking, with full fare combinability and harmonized commercial conditions.
Cooperation will extend to sales, marketing, and distribution in shared markets, as well as closer integration between the airlines' frequent flyer programs to enhance earning and redemption options. The two sides will also work on technology integration across reservation and ticketing systems, and coordinate airport services and ground handling for a smoother passenger experience.
Focus on Umrah and Hajj travel
A key focus of the expanded partnership is improved services for Umrah and Hajj travelers between Indonesia and the Kingdom, including coordinated capacity and tailored services. For the large Indonesian community traveling for pilgrimage, the move could mean more convenient connections and better-coordinated journeys to and from Saudi Arabia in the years ahead.
