Six New Driving Schools Planned Across Saudi Arabia

Six new driving schools are planned across Saudi Arabia, with one each set for Asir, Jazan, the Dammam Metropolitan Area, Hail, Makkah, and Al-Jouf. The announcement marks the start of establishing these schools and does not mean any are currently operating.

Interested companies and institutions have been invited to request the project terms and specifications from the Traffic Licensing Department and to submit their offers within one month of the announcement. School-specific tuition, enrollment fees, training and testing costs, opening dates, addresses, and operating schedules have not yet been published.

What this means for residents

For now, no fixed nationwide tuition price applies, as driving-school costs vary by provider and by the outcome of each applicant's training assessment. The standard government fee for a private licence remains SAR 40 commonly issued as SAR 40 for one year, SAR 200 for five years, and SAR 400 for ten years. The period available may depend on the applicant's status and eligibility.

The typical path to a licence begins with a medical and eyesight examination at an approved centre, followed by enrollment at an approved driving school, an initial assessment, theory training and a theory test, then practical training and a road test. After paying the licence fee, the licence is issued.

Traffic services—including appointments, licence payment, issuance, and renewal—are handled through أبشر, while a Traffic Department office can assist with services not available electronically. For residents, licence validity and the available period are linked to identity and residency records and should be confirmed in أبشر. Renewal requires an eligible medical examination and settlement of any applicable traffic fines before payment.

سعودي ليفنج will share further details on fees, locations, and opening dates once they are officially available.
