Saudi Arabia is pressing ahead with a wide-ranging upgrade of its sports infrastructure under رؤية السعودية 2030, with several major stadiums and facilities scheduled for completion ahead of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup and the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
In Al Khobar, Aramco Stadium is due for completion in October 2026, offering a capacity of about 47,000 seats and slated to host matches during the 2027 AFC Asian Cup. In الرياض, King Fahd Sports City is undergoing comprehensive modernization: the first phase of upgrades at King Fahd International Stadium targets the 2027 tournament, while further work supports the 2034 World Cup. The Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud University Stadium in the capital has already been completed, with a capacity exceeding 25,000 seats.
The broader 2034 FIFA World Cup plan calls for 15 stadiums across five major cities, made up of 11 new venues and four extensively upgraded existing sports cities. Among the flagship future projects are Jeddah Central Stadium and Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium in القدية.
Beyond stadiums, the 135-kilometre Sports Boulevard in الرياض is designed to connect the western and eastern parts of the city, offering routes for sport, walking, cycling, and healthier transport options. Plans also include roughly 134 training sites—both existing and new—distributed across Saudi regions.
The push carries significant economic weight. Sports-sector investment opportunities are valued at around 18 billion ريال سعودي, while proposed training-camp investments are estimated at 20–40 million ريال سعودي reaching up to about 5.4 billion ريال سعودي across 135 sites. For residents, the developments promise more world-class venues, expanded recreation options, and new investment and employment prospects across the Kingdom.
