TASI Trading Slows as Turnover Falls in 2026

The Saudi Exchange's main equity index (TASI) has recorded moderate monthly movements through 2026, accompanied by weaker liquidity, The most recent documented figures point to softer trading activity rather than any record monthly drop.

In July 2026, TASI fell 1.95% for the month, closing at 10,589.72 points from 10,799.92 points. Monthly turnover stood at roughly SAR 86–87 billion, with trading volume of about 4.6 billion shares — a notable slowdown in overall activity. In late August 2026 the index closed near the 11,2xx level, carrying a monthly gain of about 4–5% at that point.

Earlier in the year, February 2026 saw a cumulative decline of about 4.7% from the end of January, with TASI around 10,848 points late in the month. May 2026 closed at 11,077.91 points, down 0.98% from the previous month's close. Across the first half of 2026, the index was up roughly 3% year-to-date, while value traded fell about 10% and the number of trades dropped around 12% year-on-year — signs of thinner liquidity rather than unusually sharp price declines.

What it means for local investors

For residents and expats trading Saudi equities, activity takes place in Saudi riyal (SAR), Sunday through Thursday during official trading hours. Orders — including market and limit orders — are executed through licensed brokerage platforms linked to the Saudi Exchange. The exchange's monthly reports remain the official reference for index levels, monthly percentage change, traded value and volume, number of transactions, and sector performance.

The lower turnover and reduced number of trades suggest more cautious market participation in 2026, even as headline index moves stay within a moderate range.
