Tax Fines Cancellation Extended to December 2026

Saudi Living reports that the initiative to cancel tax fines and exempt financial penalties has been extended, keeping it in effect from 1 July 2026 through 31 December 2026. The move gives taxpayers additional time to settle outstanding obligations without incurring penalties.

The initiative applies to taxpayers subject to Saudi Arabia's tax laws, including value-added tax (VAT), excise tax, withholding tax, corporate income tax, and real estate transaction tax. Covered penalties include fines for late registration, late payment, late filing of returns, and eligible VAT return corrections.

To qualify, taxpayers must be registered with ZATCA, submit all outstanding or corrected tax returns, and pay the full principal tax debt. For those unable to pay immediately, an installment plan may be requested, and taxpayers must follow the plan approved by ZATCA through the end of the initiative. All applications and filings are completed through the ZATCA electronic portal.

No separate application fee or fixed service charge is stated for receiving the exemption, though the principal tax debt remains payable. The exemption does not cover tax-evasion penalties, fines under Article 45 of the VAT Law, or fines paid before the initiative's effective date.

The extension matters for businesses and individuals across the Kingdom, offering a practical window to regularize tax positions and avoid accumulating penalties. Those weighing their options should note that if the initiative is extended again after 31 December 2026, any further extension will not cover fines connected with returns due after 30 June 2026.
