Saudi citizens can now update the photo on their national ID card electronically, without visiting Civil Affairs offices, through the Absher Individuals platform. The option is built into the National ID Renewal service and the lost/damaged replacement services, allowing a new personal photo to be submitted as part of the request.
To use the service, log in to Absher Individuals (website or app) using your national ID number or username, password, and one-time verification code. From My Services, go to Civil Affairs → National ID Services, then choose National ID Renewal, replacement for a lost ID, or replacement for a damaged ID. During renewal, a new photo is uploaded and updated as part of the request, while for lost or damaged cards the photo is captured and linked to the replacement request.
Photo rules and fees
For lost or damaged ID cases, Civil Affairs requires the photo to be taken live using the mobile camera; uploading a previously saved image file is not accepted for those specific requests. The national ID card itself carries no issuance or renewal fee, and there is no separate published charge for changing the photo alone. Delivery fees apply only when choosing home delivery through the national address service, and the exact amount is shown at payment time in Absher and may vary by courier and address.
Updating the photo does not change the standard validity of the card beyond its normal term, which depends on the holder's age group and is applied automatically. When you renew online with a new photo, a fresh national ID card is issued with a new validity period counted from the issuance date.
For the community, the update means fewer in-person visits and faster handling of routine ID needs, keeping personal records current entirely through Absher.
