Businesses across Saudi Arabia continue to operate under a value-added tax (VAT) rate of 15% on most goods and services, a rate that has remained in force since 1 July 2020 and stays unchanged in 2026. Saudi Living outlines the key thresholds and deadlines that owners and finance teams need to keep in mind.
Registration for VAT is mandatory once a business reaches SAR 375,000 in taxable supplies over the past 12 months, or when it expects to reach that figure in the coming 12 months. Smaller businesses can register voluntarily once their taxable supplies or taxable expenses hit SAR 187,500, an option that can help newer companies recover input tax.
Filing frequency and deadlines
How often a business files depends on its size. Companies whose annual taxable supplies exceed SAR 40 million file returns monthly, while those at or below SAR 40 million file on a quarterly basis. In both cases, the return must be submitted by the last day of the month following the end of the tax period.
Registration and filing are handled through ZATCA's electronic VAT services, giving businesses a single online channel to complete their obligations.
For the community, the message is one of stability: the 15% rate, the SAR 375,000 mandatory threshold, the SAR 187,500 voluntary threshold, and the monthly-versus-quarterly split all remain in place. This gives business owners a predictable framework for pricing, cash flow planning, and compliance. Staying aware of these figures helps avoid late-filing issues and keeps operations running smoothly.
