Businesses operating in Saudi Arabia that are subject to withholding tax have until 10 September 2026 to submit their August 2026 withholding tax returns. The reminder underscores the strict monthly filing cycle that companies must follow to stay compliant.
Withholding tax is filed on a monthly basis. The return and payment must be submitted within the first 10 days of the month that follows the month in which the payment was made — meaning payments made during August fall due by 10 September. Missing the deadline triggers a late-payment penalty of 1% of the unpaid tax for every 30 days of delay, counted from the original due date.
How to file
Returns are submitted through the official online portal. After logging in, businesses go to "Returns" then "View Returns" and select "Monthly Withholding Tax," where they create a new monthly return for August 2026. Users complete and submit the receipt return form, attach a copy of the tax return and invoice, and then receive confirmation of receipt along with an invoice for payment. Notifications are sent by SMS and email, and payment is completed through the withholding tax payment e-service on the same portal.
A typical August return covers cross-border payments subject to withholding tax — such as fees paid to foreign consultants, licensors, or suppliers from a Saudi source. For each payment, businesses report the gross amount, the applicable rate, and the tax withheld.
For assistance, support is available around the clock through the unified call center on 19993, the "Ask Zakat, Tax and Customs" account on X, email support, and live chat via the portal. The reminder follows a consistent 2026 pattern, with June returns having been due on 10 July.
