WPC Energy Congress Held in Riyadh Despite Airport Disruption

The 25th WPC Energy Congress went ahead in Riyadh from 11 to 15 October 2026, drawing international energy leaders to the Riyadh Front Exhibition & Conference Center despite a disruption near King Khalid International Airport.

The venue sits roughly 10 km from the airport, where operations were temporarily suspended while safety and operational-readiness checks were completed. The suspension led to flight cancellations and delays that affected travel plans for a number of conference delegates.

To keep participation on track, some attendees routed through alternative airports, while others joined the proceedings remotely. Organizers continued the full program on schedule, and the 17th International Energy Forum Ministerial Meeting was held alongside the congress.

Why it matters

The congress brings significant international attention to Riyadh and reflects the capital's growing role as a host for major global gatherings in the energy sector. For residents and businesses, large events like this can mean increased hotel demand, busier roads, and heightened activity around major venues and transport links.

The quick return to operations at the airport and the decision to proceed with the program underline the readiness of Riyadh's event and travel infrastructure to manage disruptions while keeping high-profile international meetings on course.
