Conservation authorities have removed more than 1.6 million tons of debris and waste from the Imam Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Royal Reserve and the King Khalid Royal Reserve by the end of the second quarter of 2026, marking a major milestone in ongoing environmental cleanup work.
The effort is part of wider field restoration projects aimed at improving the natural landscape and reviving the ecosystems within the two reserves. Operational figures indicate that more than 65,000 truckloads of material were cleared during the campaign, while over 3,900 hectares of land were rehabilitated.
The scale of the operation reflects the growing focus on restoring degraded natural areas across the Kingdom. Reserves like these play an important role in protecting native plant and animal species, supporting biodiversity, and preserving open natural spaces for future generations.
Why It Matters
For residents and visitors, cleaner and healthier reserves mean better-protected wildlife habitats and improved natural environments closer to major population centers. Restoration work of this kind also supports long-term environmental goals tied to preserving the Kingdom's landscapes and green cover.
Field rehabilitation projects such as these are expected to continue as authorities work to reverse years of accumulated waste and environmental damage, helping ensure that the reserves can recover and thrive over the coming years.
