New Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal Reserve Approved

A new nature reserve, the Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal Reserve, has been approved in September 2026 under the framework of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, adding a large protected area to the region surrounding the capital.

The reserve spans 4,310 square kilometers and covers Dhurma, Al-Muzahimiyah, and the areas between them. It features a mix of natural landscapes, including the Tuwaiq Mountains, sand dunes, and rural terrain that reflect the character of the central region.

The Royal Commission for Riyadh City will oversee the reserve's objectives, which focus on environmental protection, ecosystem restoration, economic development, and social development. This dual approach aims to preserve the area's natural habitats while supporting sustainable growth for nearby communities.

Why it matters

The addition of a protected zone of this size reinforces ongoing efforts to safeguard the Kingdom's natural heritage close to one of its most populated regions. For residents in and around Riyadh, the reserve represents a long-term commitment to conserving native landscapes and restoring local ecosystems.

At this stage, no entry fees, ticket prices, permit details, or official visitor procedures have been announced. Likewise, no operating venues, attractions, restaurants, or activity operators tied to the reserve have been identified. Saudi Living will share further practical details as they become available.
