Ministry of Energy Opens Energy Hackathon Signups

The Ministry of Energy has opened the idea submission phase for its first Energy Hackathon, inviting participants to register between 19 August 2026 and 16 September 2026. The event will take place at KAPSARC in Riyadh from 7 to 9 October 2026, running under the theme “Ignite Your Ideas.”

Those interested can apply through the hackathon’s official website at hackathon.moenergy.gov.sa. The submission window is the first step before the on-site event, giving individuals and teams several weeks to prepare and register their proposals.

Challenges and tracks

The hackathon features six challenges spread across three tracks: Operational Efficiency, Transformative Innovation, and Intelligent Control. The announced focus areas cover inspection capabilities at oil and gas facilities, power-grid stability with higher renewable generation, smart fuel stations, hydrogen-storage technologies, predicting grid failures, and electricity load management.

The initiative reflects the Kingdom’s wider push to develop practical solutions across the energy sector, from traditional oil and gas operations to renewable power and emerging technologies. For students, engineers, developers, and innovators in Riyadh and beyond, it offers a chance to tackle real-world energy problems in a structured, competitive setting.

Available information does not indicate any participation fee or ticket price for the event. Those wishing to take part should complete their registration before the 16 September 2026 deadline.
