Absher Adds Name Translation Service for Workers

The General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) has launched a new online service in 2026 that allows employers to update the translated names of domestic workers under their sponsorship through the Absher platform, without any need to visit a Jawazat office.

Under the service, the change can only be carried out by the employer, not by the worker. For domestic workers of Arab nationalities, the service updates the English translation of the name, while for workers of non-Arab nationalities it updates the Arabic translation of the name.

How the service works

The service is available through the Absher (Individuals) platform only. The employer logs in, opens the “domestic workers” section, enters resident services, selects the relevant worker, chooses the update translated name service, then enters the corrected name and submits the request electronically.

This addition is one of several new Jawazat services on Absher, which also include modifying translated names for resident family members and passport services for minors.

Separately, a related passport information update service for expatriates, including domestic workers, is available through the employer’s Absher account for a fee of 69 SAR including VAT. This update can be made only once every five years, cannot be carried out if the passport has more than one Gregorian year of validity remaining, and requires the resident to be inside the Kingdom during processing. The employer uploads a clear passport photo so the system can read the passport number and expiry date automatically.

For the community, the new tools mean fewer office visits and simpler correction of name spelling errors that often cause problems with official documents, banking, and travel.
