Al-Baha Under Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Alerts

Residents and visitors in Al-Baha have been urged to exercise caution as the region remains under ongoing alerts for moderate to heavy thunderstorms and heavy rain, with risks that include hail, torrential rains, strong winds, reduced visibility and lightning.

The alerts cover most of the region's governorates, among them Al-Baha city, Baljurashi, Al-Mandaq, Bani Hassan, Al-Qura, Al-Aqiq, Al-Makhwah, Qilwah, Ghamid Al-Zanad and Al-Hajrah. An early-warning alert for heavy rain was issued on 21 August 2026 and was valid on 22 August 2026 from 12:00 to 21:00, warning of heavy rain, active winds, poor horizontal visibility, hail, torrential rains and thunder across the governorates of Al-Baha, Al-Aqiq, Al-Mandaq, Al-Qara, Baljurashi and Bani Hassan.

The current national outlook indicates that moderate to heavy thunderstorms — which may lead to flash floods — are expected over parts of Al-Baha, along with thundery rain and active winds that also affect other southwestern regions. Short-term forecasts point to thunderstorms and active winds in the area, with fog possibly forming over the highlands. Forecasts extending through late August 2026 suggest continued heavy rain and thunderstorms across the southwest, with Al-Baha repeatedly listed among the areas expecting rainfall of varying intensity.

Why it matters

Weather conditions are tracked using color-coded alerts — yellow, orange and red — with published start and end times for each event, ranging from yellow for lighter rain to higher levels when heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast.

Official guidance advises the public to avoid flood-prone valleys and low-lying areas, drive carefully during periods of reduced visibility, and stay updated through official weather and alert channels while unstable conditions persist.
