Al Ittihad Signs Wijnaldum on Free Transfer

Al Ittihad has completed the signing of Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, who joins the Jeddah club on a free transfer after leaving Al Ettifaq as a free agent. The move was officially confirmed on 7 September 2026, during the final hours of the 2026–27 Roshn Saudi League summer transfer window.

No transfer fee was involved in the deal, and the value in Saudi riyals has not been publicly disclosed, including any signing-on fee or wage details. Available information describes the agreement as a one-year sporting-season contract with an option to extend for an additional season, running until 30 June 2027.

Wijnaldum remains registered as a player in the Roshn Saudi League and will feature for Al Ittihad throughout the 2026–27 campaign. The signing was completed before the transfer window closed, allowing the club to finalize its squad ahead of the new season.

The arrival adds midfield experience to Al Ittihad as it prepares for the demands of the domestic league. For football fans in Jeddah and across the Kingdom, the free transfer underlines the continued appeal of the Roshn Saudi League to established international players, and adds another familiar name to follow in the season ahead.
