Saudi Arabia has appointed Fawaz bin Zanaaf Al-Suhaili as President of the Transport General Authority in February 2026, in a move aimed at raising efficiency and strengthening the country's transport and logistics sectors.
The appointment covers oversight of land, maritime, and rail transport, which the Authority regulates under the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services. As President, Al-Suhaili is responsible for supervising the Authority, proposing policies, drawing up development plans, and representing the body in its work.
Why it matters
Public transport and logistics touch daily life for residents and expats across the Kingdom — from goods delivery and freight to the wider movement of people and cargo. Stronger governance at the Authority is intended to keep these services running efficiently as demand grows in cities such as Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam.
The leadership change follows a busy period of regulatory activity in 2026. In August 2026, the Authority issued executive regulations for commercial motorcycle freight transport, setting rules for that fast-growing delivery segment. It also extended a deadline until 27 August 2026 for certain land transport establishments in goods-transport activities to correct their status.
The Transport General Authority continues to serve as the main regulator for land, rail, and maritime transport in Saudi Arabia, working to align the sector with national development goals.
