The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has launched the Kingdom's first National Food Composition Database, a national reference providing detailed nutrient information for local foods and traditional Saudi dishes. The initiative is run through the National Nutrition Committee as part of the Health Sector Transformation Program under Saudi Vision 2030.
The database covers a wide range of nutritional values, including energy, carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber and sodium. It is designed to serve as a trusted reference for health and nutrition work, scientific research, food policy, and food industry labelling.
Users can access the data through two main channels. A searchable web tool hosted on an official SFDA domain (fd.sfda.gov.sa) allows researchers, health practitioners, food manufacturers and members of the public to browse or search nutrient data for Saudi foods and dishes. Alternatively, a downloadable PDF book, the "Saudi Food Composition Tables," is available through the SFDA website for offline use as a reference document.
Access is provided directly through the SFDA's online platforms. No account creation, e-service registration, or identity verification steps are required to view or use the database contents, and no user fees or subscription charges are specified for either the online tool or the PDF download.
The database and tables are described as providing updated, reliable and high-quality data based on approved scientific methodologies and quality standards. For families, dietitians and food businesses across Riyadh, Jeddah and the wider Kingdom, the resource offers an accurate local reference for understanding the nutritional content of everyday and traditional Saudi meals.
