Saudi Arabia has appointed Mazen Turki Al-Sudairi as chairman of the Board of the Capital Market Authority (CMA) with the rank of minister, under a Royal Order issued in August 2026. The same order relieved Mohammed bin Abdullah Elkuwaiz of his position as chairman.
With the change, the CMA board is now led by Al-Sudairi as chairman, alongside Youssef Hamad Al-Bilihid as vice chairman. The chairmanship of the authority carries ministerial rank, in line with previous royal orders that placed CMA chairmen at the rank of minister.
Al-Sudairi brings a background in Saudi financial markets. He previously served as head of research at Al Rajhi Capital, and in 2024 he was appointed advisor to the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers at an Excellent Grade level.
Why it matters
The appointment marks a leadership transition at the CMA after nearly a decade under Mohammed Elkuwaiz, who had chaired the authority since 2017. The CMA is the regulator responsible for overseeing and developing Saudi Arabia's capital market, a key pillar of the national economy.
The CMA has publicly confirmed the appointment and its ministerial rank through its official press communications and leadership page, and its official social media account congratulated Al-Sudairi on taking up the role.
