AWS to Open First Saudi Cloud Region in December 2026

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has confirmed plans to open its first cloud infrastructure Region in Saudi Arabia in December 2026, in a move that expands the Kingdom's growing digital infrastructure.

The new Region is backed by a planned investment of more than US$5.3 billion, equivalent to about SAR 19.88 billion. It is expected to launch with three Availability Zones, which are groups of data centers designed to keep services running reliably and to help businesses store and process data locally.

Alongside the Region, AWS also announced a separate AI Zone in Saudi Arabia developed with HUMAIN. The AI Zone is set to provide up to 50 megawatts of capacity by 2028, adding dedicated resources for artificial intelligence workloads in the country.

Why it matters

For businesses, developers, and public-sector organizations operating in the Kingdom, a local cloud Region can mean faster access to online services and the ability to keep data within Saudi Arabia. This supports companies that need to meet local data requirements while scaling their digital operations.

The announcement reflects continued investment in the Kingdom's technology sector and its ambitions to build a stronger digital economy. The Region and AI Zone together point to expanding capacity for cloud computing and artificial intelligence in the years ahead.

No new fees, user prices, visas, permits, or government-process steps apply to residents or businesses as a result of this announcement.
