Civil Defense Warns of Thunderstorms Across Saudi Arabia

The General Directorate of Civil Defense has called on residents across Saudi Arabia to take precautions as thunderstorms are forecast to affect much of the Kingdom through Friday, October 2, 2026.

Heavier rainfall is expected over Jazan, Aseer, Al-Baha, and Madinah, where conditions may bring flash floods, hail, and strong descending winds carrying dust. Lighter to moderate rain is anticipated in Hail, Tabuk, Al-Jouf, the Northern Borders, and other affected areas.

Safety precautions

Authorities advised residents to remain in safe places and to stay away from valleys, flood channels, and low-lying areas where water tends to collect. The public was also warned not to swim in floodwater, which can pose serious risks even in shallow depths.

Residents are urged to follow the alerts and instructions issued by the General Directorate of Civil Defense and the National Center for Meteorology through official media and social-media channels, and to check updates before travelling during the forecast period.

The advisory matters for communities in both cities and outlying areas, where sudden downpours can affect road conditions and daily movement. Taking simple precautions and avoiding valleys and flooded roads helps keep families and drivers safe until the weather settles.
