Ownership of four Saudi sports clubs was transferred to major national entities in June 2023, as part of a wider push to develop the Kingdom's football and sports sector.
Under the move, Al-Qadisiyah Club came under the ownership of Saudi Aramco, while Al-Diriyah Club was transferred to the Diriyah Gate Development Authority. Ownership of AlUla Club passed to the Royal Commission for AlUla, and Al-Suqoor Club — later identified as NEOM Club — was transferred to NEOM.
These transfers are institutional ownership changes rather than individual government services. There is no fee, application process, validity period, or personal procedure involved for the public; the clubs are simply now owned and backed by these national organizations.
Why it matters
Linking clubs to large, well-resourced entities is intended to strengthen their management, facilities and long-term financial stability. For fans and local communities in these areas, the backing of major organizations can translate into better infrastructure, stronger squads and expanded sporting activity.
The changes reflect ongoing efforts to modernize Saudi sport, raise competitiveness and broaden participation, giving each club a clearer identity tied to a prominent national body.
