Saudi Arabia's national gaming strategy is increasingly being viewed as a gateway to a first job for young people across the Kingdom, positioning gaming, esports, and game development as serious career paths rather than a hobby.
The strategy, launched in September 2022 as a priority sector under Vision 2030, set out ambitious employment goals. It targets around 39,000 jobs in the gaming sector by 2030, with roughly 15,000 jobs planned for 2025 compared with about 5,000 in 2022. By 2026, some estimates place direct employment at around 5,000 jobs and total industry jobs at more than 10,000.
The plan also aims to expand the local industry base, growing from about 10 domestic game studios in 2022 to more than 250 by 2030. Employment is not limited to development alone; the sector is opening roles in esports, event management, publishing, and related support services.
Why it matters
For young residents in Riyadh, Jeddah, and beyond, the growth offers new entry points into the labour market in a field many already know and enjoy. The emphasis on youth employment means first-time job seekers can build careers in a fast-growing digital economy.
Market estimates vary by source. One projection put the Saudi gaming market at about USD 2.3877 billion in 2025, rising to roughly USD 4.9572 billion by 2034. Another estimate suggested the market could reach around SAR 10 billion in 2026, while a separate report placed it at about USD 1.19 billion in 2024, growing to USD 1.64 billion by 2028.
Despite differences in figures, the direction is clear: gaming is being built into a durable industry with room for thousands of new careers in the years ahead.
