Saudi Arabia claimed the top spot at the 2026 International Nuclear Science Olympiad, hosted in Jeddah, winning four medals: two gold, one silver and one bronze.
The Saudi team's medalists were Amjad Mahmoud Issa Al-Darwish, who took gold as the overall winner and was named "Nuclear Science Ambassador," and Jana Saleh Abdullah Al-Sabil, who won gold and was also honored as Best Female Student. Abdulaziz Abdulmohsen Al-Sharait earned silver, while Saleh Mubarak Dhaifallah Al-Harbi secured bronze.
The competition's third edition was held at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah from 2 to 9 August 2026. Saudi Arabia first took part in the inaugural 2024 edition of the Olympiad and continued its participation in 2025, before stepping up to host the event in 2026.
The result marks a milestone for the Kingdom's growing presence in international science competitions and reflects rising investment in advanced fields of study among young Saudis. Hosting the third edition on home soil also underscores Saudi Arabia's expanding role as a regional center for scientific events and academic exchange.
For students and families in the community, the achievement highlights the widening opportunities available in specialized scientific disciplines and the recognition Saudi talent is earning on the global stage.
