Residents and visitors across the Kingdom's southwest should prepare for unsettled weather, as heavy thunderstorms with moderate to heavy rain and hail are forecast over parts of Asir, Jazan and western Al-Baha through Saturday, with the risk of flash floods in some areas.
The current spell brings light to moderate rain over southern and western Asir and areas around Abha, turning moderate to heavy along the border between Asir and Jazan. Western Al-Baha will see rain that starts light to moderate before intensifying, while heavier showers are expected over parts of Jazan's coast, including areas near Jazan city.
Thunderstorms are set to continue from Wednesday through Saturday, with a notable intensification on Saturday afternoon over the Asir–Jazan border and western Al-Baha. Forecasts indicate the rain and storms will weaken by late Saturday evening and clear by early Sunday morning.
Hazards to watch
Affected areas of Jazan, Asir and Al-Baha face the risk of torrential rain, flash floods, active winds, lightning and hail. Meanwhile, temperatures remain elevated in parts of the Kingdom, with some regions reaching the high-40s°C — conditions that add fuel to the convective storms building over the southwest.
Official forecasts and warnings are published through daily bulletins and an early-warning map system, along with color-coded alerts — yellow, orange and occasionally red — issued for specific governorates in Jazan, Asir and Al-Baha. These alerts carry defined start and end times, usually specified by day and part of day.
There are no SAR fees to view weather forecasts or early-warning alerts; access to bulletins and animated maps is free for residents and visitors alike. Motorists and residents in the affected regions are advised to avoid valleys and low-lying areas during heavy rain and to follow the latest updates as the situation develops through the weekend.
