Historic Jeddah Al-Balad: Events and Restoration Update

Historic Jeddah, known as Al-Balad, remains one of Saudi Arabia's most celebrated destinations as a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Regeneration and restoration work continues under the Ministry of Culture through the Jeddah Historic District program, alongside a lineup of cultural events for residents and visitors in Jeddah.

The Jeddah Historic District regeneration project began in 2014 and is ongoing. Since 2023, recent works have included refurbishing multiple historic buildings, rehabilitating three historic structures into guest lodges, and restoring the façades of several historic restaurants — preserving the district's distinctive character.

Events and what they cost

Walking around the open streets and public areas of Al-Balad is free, with no mandatory entry ticket or fee for the district itself. Several programs are held throughout the year. The Jeddah Historic District Heritage Night takes place at Souq Al Alawi and offers traditional crafts, storytelling, and historical reenactments in the evening, free of charge.

The Balad Beast festival returns to the Historic Jeddah District as a large-scale music and arts event with multiple stages and regional and international artists. Recent editions have been scheduled over two days in January, with evening hours in some listings. Tickets are offered in General Admission and premium "VIB" categories, including two-day passes; exact prices for the upcoming edition have not been confirmed publicly.

The Al Balad Winter Season brings tours, heritage experiences, arts and crafts, and food offerings across landmark venues including Bab Al Bunt, the Red Sea Museum, Beit Assif, the Tariq Abdulhakim Museum, Zawya 97, and Craftsmen's Alley.

For event details and visitor guidance, official information is available through the national tourism platform Visit Saudi and the district-specific Visit Al Balad platform. Access to heritage events in the district does not require Absher, Muqeem, Qiwa, Najiz, Nafath, or Tawakkalna — these are not the channels for tickets or entry.
