How to Use Absher: Key Services Every Resident Needs

If you live in Saudi Arabia, Absher is the single most important app on your phone. Run by the Ministry of Interior, it puts nearly every government service you need as a resident in one place: renewing your Iqama, issuing exit/re-entry visas, paying traffic fines, managing your dependents, booking appointments, and carrying an official digital ID. This Saudi Living guide walks you through registering, activating your account, and using the services that matter most in daily life.

What Absher Is and How to Access It

Absher is the government's unified digital platform for citizens and residents. As a resident, you'll use Absher Individuals (Absher Afrad), available on iOS and Android, or the web portal at absher.sa. Businesses use a separate Absher Business platform for sponsorship and labor services, so make sure you're using the individuals version for your personal needs.

How to Register as a Resident

Setting up your account takes only a few minutes if you have the right details ready:

  • Download Absher Individuals or open absher.sa, then choose new registration (select "Non‑Saudi" where prompted).
  • Enter your Iqama or border number, date of birth, a Saudi mobile number registered in your own name, and your email.
  • Verify the SMS one‑time password, then create your username and password.
  • Activate your account through a bank linked to Absher, an ATM, a self‑service Jawazat kiosk, or a Jawazat office.

After activation, you log in with your Iqama or username and password, then confirm through mobile verification. Some logins use Nafath two‑factor authentication and biometric sign‑in for extra security.

Iqama and Dependents Services

This is where most residents spend their time. Under Iqama services you can view your Iqama details, check the expiry date, renew it (if your employer has enabled the option), and download your digital Iqama. Renewal is typically allowed up to 90 days before expiry, and once renewed the digital Iqama in Absher is valid immediately as proof of residency.

For families, Absher lets you add and remove dependents, cancel a dependent's record, separate an adult dependent onto their own record, and manage travel permissions for family members. In 2026 several new e‑services were added, including updating your Iqama photo digitally without visiting a Jawazat office, canceling the record of a dependent who has left the Kingdom permanently, and separating a dependent aged 18+ into an independent record under their own sponsorship where applicable.

Visa and Travel Services

Planning to travel? Absher handles the entire exit/re‑entry process. You can issue, extend, and cancel exit/re‑entry visas, view visa details, and request or cancel a final exit visa. A newer option lets you use the Absher Travel service at the Salwa border crossing for trips between Saudi Arabia and Qatar, allowing pre‑clearance and faster processing at the border.

Traffic, Fines and Driving

Absher is also your go‑to for anything on the road:

  • View and pay traffic fines and check outstanding violations.
  • Renew your driving licence.
  • Review vehicle ownership and insurance details.

Payments are handled through SADAD invoices generated inside Absher, which you settle via your bank app or ATM. Always confirm the current amounts and any updates on the official platform before paying.

Appointments, Certificates and Digital ID

You can book and manage appointments with Jawazat (Passports), Civil Affairs, and other Ministry of Interior departments directly in the app, saving long waits. Absher also lets you request a "free‑of‑precedents" certificate and other Public Security services, some of which are completed using your Digital ID inside the app. That same Digital ID displays your digital Iqama and can be used as official identification anywhere inside the Kingdom.

Practical Tips

  • Keep your mobile number and email up to date — many services rely on SMS verification.
  • Register the SIM in your own name; Absher requires a number linked to you.
  • Renew your Iqama early — the 90‑day window helps you avoid last‑minute problems.
  • For any specific fee, deadline, or eligibility question, always confirm on absher.sa or the Absher app itself.

Master these core services and Absher turns most routine government paperwork into a few taps from your phone.
