Development efforts in Jazan region are shifting the Kingdom's mountain areas away from basic urbanization and toward investment projects and long-term sustainable growth. A recent Cabinet decision dissolved the Authority for the Development and Reconstruction of Mountainous Areas in Jazan and transferred its responsibilities to the Strategic Office for the Development of Jazan Region and the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, effective in 2026.
Current priorities focus on developing coffee value chains and specialized agriculture, expanding mountain and eco-tourism and rural industries, supporting small and medium enterprises and traditional crafts, and protecting natural resources while improving quality of life for local communities.
The region is backed by a development program exceeding SAR 5.3 billion in new projects, alongside more than SAR 17 billion in recent housing, municipal, and infrastructure works covering roads, drainage, and urban landscaping. Jazan's investment portfolio currently includes 47 projects with construction costs above SAR 3 billion — spanning seafronts, boulevards and resorts, hotels, hospitals, markets, and industrial sites — with total targeted investments exceeding SAR 4 billion.
Opportunities for investors
In 2025, Jazan Municipality launched about 350 investment opportunities through its investment portal, including rural lodges, resorts, parks, sponsorship rights, equestrian academies, healthcare and education facilities, and commercial ventures, some aimed at rural and mountainous areas. The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification has also introduced five eco-tourism investment opportunities in national parks in Jazan, with a mix of long-term and seasonal contracts for tree-planting, vegetation support, and nature-based tourism.
Investors can access these projects through municipal investment platforms such as Furas, along with government finance and support channels including the Tourism Development Fund and the relevant ministries. Standard national digital services such as أبشر, قوى, ناجز, and Etimad handle company registration, labor contracts, licensing, and government procurement nationwide. For the community, the changes point to more jobs, tourism activity, and services in Jazan's mountain villages in the years ahead.
