NCVC to Rehabilitate 350,000 Hectares of Pasture

The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification launched a nationwide campaign on 4 September 2026 to rehabilitate natural rangeland pastures across Saudi Arabia, with a target of restoring 350,000 hectares by 2030.

As part of the program's 2026 execution plan, more than 60,000 hectares will be rehabilitated this year across 70 sites and 25 valleys and meadows. The work relies on seed dispersal, using more than 110 tons of seeds covering 70 plant species.

The center said the initiative builds on progress already achieved. Over the past two years, more than 51,000 hectares have been restored across 58 sites and 15 valleys and meadows, using 109 tons of seeds drawn from 40 plant species.

Why it matters

Healthy rangeland supports the wider natural environment, helps combat desertification, and strengthens the resilience of local ecosystems that communities across the Kingdom depend on. Restoring native pastures can improve soil stability, support grazing lands, and contribute to a greener landscape over the coming years.

The campaign is described as an environmental rehabilitation program rather than a fee-based public service. There are no fees, applications, or booking steps for residents, and no user-facing service channel is associated with it. It is a large-scale field effort aimed at expanding vegetation cover nationwide through 2030.
