New national standards have been introduced in Saudi Arabia to strengthen the way artificial-intelligence programs are developed, evaluated, and accredited across universities and training institutions. The frameworks are issued by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), with academic standards supported by the Education and Training Evaluation Commission (ETEC).
At the center of the effort is the Saudi Academic Framework for AI Qualifications, which guides how AI programs are designed and assessed. The framework defines eight qualification levels, ranging from elementary level up to doctoral level, and sets out study-plan requirements, learning outcomes, qualification levels, and minimum credit-hour requirements.
Alongside it, the National Occupational Standard Framework for Data and Artificial Intelligence works to standardize occupational practices in the field and support the development of workforce capabilities. ETEC academic standards, meanwhile, define the minimum requirements for bachelor's-degree AI programs and back standardized testing and accreditation.
Why it matters
For students, professionals, and employers in Riyadh, Jeddah, and beyond, the standards aim to bring clarity and consistency to AI education and careers. Clear qualification levels and defined learning outcomes make it easier to compare programs, plan study paths, and match skills to job requirements as demand for AI talent grows.
No fees, application charges, validity periods, or online-portal procedures are specified for these standards. Those seeking further details can refer to SDAIA for the frameworks and to ETEC for the academic standards.
