Saudi Arabia Launches National AI Risk Framework

Saudi Arabia has launched a National Artificial Intelligence Risk Management Framework, introduced in 2026 through the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA). The framework serves as a national reference for both government and private-sector entities that use or develop artificial-intelligence systems.

The framework sets out a unified approach for handling AI-related risks. It guides organizations through defining their context and scope, identifying potential risks, assessing those risks, treating them, and continuously monitoring and reviewing them over time.

What it means for organizations

The framework is guidance-oriented rather than a paid or transactional service. No specific fees, registration charges, permits, validity periods, or service prices were identified, and there is no separate application through any government transaction portal. Instead, entities are expected to apply the framework through their own internal AI-governance processes, supported by SDAIA-related regulatory guidance.

By providing a single, consistent method for managing AI risks, the framework aims to help organizations across the Kingdom adopt artificial intelligence more responsibly. For residents and businesses, this points toward safer and more accountable use of AI in the services and technologies they interact with, aligning with the Kingdom's wider goals for the digital economy.

No specific 2026 compliance deadline or mandatory application procedure was identified. Entities using or building AI systems can review their governance practices in line with the framework as part of their ongoing operations.
