Saudi Arabia is steadily expanding the use of healthcare technology and artificial intelligence across its medical services, with new tools spanning digital health, AI-supported diagnostics, robotic surgery, virtual care, and partnerships with technology firms.
The Ministry of Health introduced an “AI Physician” virtual doctor experience in 2025, designed to strengthen diagnosis and clinical decision-making. Alongside it, the Ministry’s Sandbox initiative gives developers a controlled space to test digital health, AI, Internet of Things, biotechnology, and 3D printing solutions. To date, the program has supported 342 solutions and advanced 25 of them to implementation.
Virtual care is also a growing pillar of the system. Seha Virtual Hospital serves as a flagship digital-care model, enabling remote consultations and AI-enabled service delivery for patients who may be far from specialist centres.
New partnerships and approvals
In September 2026, SDAIA and Care Medical signed a memorandum of understanding to develop data and artificial intelligence capabilities for the healthcare sector. In the same month, the SFDA approved Saudi-developed AI-enabled medical software for dental and ophthalmic diagnosis.
For residents and expats across the Kingdom, these steps point toward faster diagnoses, easier access to consultations, and locally developed medical tools tailored to the region. As the technology matures, patients in the Riyadh and Jeddah areas and beyond may increasingly encounter AI-supported services as part of routine care.
