PIF Becomes Full Owner of Saudi's Four Big Clubs

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Sport has transferred the remaining 25% stakes in the country's four biggest football clubs — Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad, and Al-Ahli — to the Public Investment Fund (PIF), a step that began on 19 August 2026 and makes PIF the full owner of the companies behind these clubs, except where later sales have taken place.

The move completes a process launched in June 2023, when PIF acquired 75% stakes in each of the four clubs. At that time, the remaining 25% in every club was held by non-profit foundations linked to the Ministry of Sport. As part of the latest step, those foundations' stakes were moved to PIF and the boards of directors of the associated non-profit entities were dissolved, since their ownership roles had ended.

Officials describe the transfer and the dissolution of the boards as regulatory and legal procedures completed by the Ministry of Sport and relevant state bodies. Public information does not specify any transaction price paid for the 25% stakes, nor a per-club figure for the transfer.

The change ties into the wider Sports Clubs Investment and Privatization Project introduced in 2023, which set targets including league revenues of SAR 1.8 billion and a total market value above SAR 8 billion for the top clubs by 2030.

In a separate development, as of April 2026, Al-Hilal Club Company was valued at SAR 1.4 billion under a binding agreement for Kingdom Holding Company to acquire 70% of the company from PIF, subject to regulatory approvals and closing conditions. PIF remained a shareholder pending completion.

For fans and residents across Riyadh, Jeddah and beyond, the consolidation signals continued investment in Saudi football and a clearer ownership structure as the clubs pursue their growth ambitions.
