Saudi Arabia Confirmed to Host 2034 FIFA World Cup

Saudi Arabia has been officially confirmed as the host nation for the 2034 men’s FIFA World Cup, following a decision ratified at an Extraordinary FIFA Congress held on 11 December 2024. A dedicated national portal under the “Saudi Arabia FIFA World Cup 2034™” branding is now active, offering official information about the tournament and its preparations.

The Kingdom’s bid book outlines a series of major stadium projects and timelines across several host cities. Among the flagship venues is King Salman International Stadium in Riyadh, a planned new arena with a gross capacity of about 92,760 seats and a targeted completion of 2029, designated to host both the opening match and the final. King Fahad Sports City Stadium in Riyadh is set to be refurbished by 2026 and will host semi-final fixtures.

Other new builds already under construction include Aramco Stadium in Al Khobar, scheduled for completion in 2026, alongside Prince Faisal bin Fahad Sports City Stadium in Riyadh and Jeddah Central Development Stadium in Jeddah, both targeted for 2027. The bid book states that all new stadia for the tournament are scheduled to be completed between 2026 and 2032.

What it means for residents

Current host city plans span Riyadh, Jeddah, Al Khobar, Abha and NEOM, combining new construction with renovations. There are indications that the originally proposed number of venues may be reduced due to delays and budget revisions, but the official framework remains based on these cities.

As of mid-2026, no official 2034 World Cup match schedule, final stadium list, or ticket prices in Saudi Riyal have been released. No World Cup-specific fan-visa fees or dedicated digital service workflows for spectators or workers have been announced. Residents planning ahead should note that current domestic Pro League ticket prices, roughly SAR 30–50 for standard seats and SAR 200 and above for premium categories, are league prices and not designated World Cup rates.
