Saudi Arabia Reveals 2034 World Cup Bid: 5 Cities

Saudi Arabia has published its official bid book to host the FIFA World Cup 2034, confirming five proposed host cities: Riyadh, Jeddah, Al Khobar, Abha, and NEOM. The document lays out a plan for 15 stadiums spread across the Kingdom, with eight of them located in the capital.

both the opening match and the final are planned to be held in Riyadh at King Salman International Stadium, a new venue with a planned capacity of 92,760 seats. Other Riyadh venues include King Fahd Sports City Stadium (70,200 after renovation), South Riyadh Stadium (47,060), Prince Faisal bin Fahd Sports City Stadium (46,865), King Saud University Stadium (46,319), New Murabba Stadium (46,010), ROSHN Stadium (46,000), and Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium (46,979).

In Jeddah, the plan lists King Abdullah Sports City Stadium (62,345 after renovation), Qiddiya Coast Stadium (46,096), Jeddah Central Development Stadium (45,794), and King Abdullah Economic City Stadium (45,700). Al Khobar is set to feature Aramco Stadium (46,096, new/under construction), while Abha's King Khalid University Stadium is planned at 45,428 seats after renovation.

NEOM Stadium, with a planned capacity of 46,010 seats, is described in the bid book as a landmark venue within the NEOM coastal project.

Why it matters

The plan signals major long-term investment in sports infrastructure across the Kingdom, from new stadiums to renovated arenas. For residents and expats, the coming years are expected to bring wider development in transport, hospitality, and entertainment around these host cities, with Riyadh positioned at the centre of the tournament framework.
