Saudi Arabia is expanding and modernizing its sports facilities under رؤية السعودية 2030, preparing a nationwide network of stadiums and training sites to host major regional and global championships, including the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
The World Cup plan covers 15 stadiums across الرياض, جدة, Al-Khobar, Abha, and نيوم. It includes 11 new stadiums and four existing venues that will undergo extensive upgrades. The principal venue will be King Salman International Stadium in الرياض, designed to seat more than 92,000 spectators.
In the Eastern Province, Aramco Stadium in Al-Khobar is scheduled for completion in October 2026 with a capacity of around 47,000 seats. It is set to host matches during the 2027 AFC Asian Cup. In القدية, Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium is under construction with a planned capacity of about 47,000, featuring a retractable roof, a retractable pitch, and an integrated LED wall.
In جدة, Jeddah Central Stadium is progressing as a future project reflecting local architectural heritage. Two operating venues — King Abdullah Sports City Stadium and Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Sports City Stadium — are being prepared to host matches during the 2026 Arabian Gulf Cup.
Beyond the stadiums
الرياض is also developing Sports Boulevard, a 135-kilometre network for walking, cycling, horse riding, and sports activities, with facilities supporting more than 50 sports. To back the 2034 tournament, training infrastructure is planned across 10 additional cities, including Al-Baha, Jazan, Taif, Medina, العلا, Umluj, Tabuk, Hail, Al-Ahsa, and Buraidah.
For residents and expats, the expansion means more accessible venues, expanded fitness and recreation options, and a growing calendar of international events in the years ahead.
