Riyadh Activates Emergency Flood Plan for Rainy Season

Riyadh Municipality has activated a field emergency plan to deal with rainy weather and the risk of flooding during the 2026 rainy season, focusing on rapid response across the capital's main roads, tunnels, and neighborhood entrances.

As part of its readiness efforts in March 2026, the municipality deployed 9,053 personnel and 2,123 machines and vehicles. The plan concentrates on drainage-network maintenance, field inspections, deployment of pumping equipment, and coordination for swift handling of any incidents.

The operational response is designed to address water accumulation, keep traffic flowing, manage emergency situations, and ensure the continuity of municipal services in areas most affected by heavy rain, including major routes and low-lying spots where water tends to gather.

How residents can report issues

Residents can report rain-related problems or municipal incidents through the 940 municipal contact center or the Balady platform, which feed reports into the municipality's emergency center for handling.

The measures matter to families and commuters across Riyadh, as rainy-season disruptions can affect daily travel and safety. By pre-positioning crews, pumps, and equipment, the municipality aims to reduce the impact of sudden storms and clear water quickly from roads and tunnels.
