Riyadh Launches 6 Community Sports Tournaments

Residents of central Riyadh will have a busy sporting month as six community sports tournaments take place across 11 locations throughout September 2026, welcoming participants of different age groups in public squares and community facilities within the central sector.

The lineup covers a mix of team sports and popular traditional games. It includes a neighborhood football league for local teams, a volunteer football league for volunteer groups, and tournaments in basketball and volleyball. Fans of classic Saudi pastimes can also join competitions in the card game baloot and in dominoes.

Organizers say the tournaments aim to encourage physical activity, strengthen ties between neighbors, and turn public spaces and community centers into lively lifestyle hubs — part of wider efforts to raise quality of life in the capital.

More than sport

Alongside the matches, more than 15 accompanying events are planned, spanning recreational, educational, and health-awareness activities. Around 40 public, private, and non-profit entities, including volunteer teams, are taking part, giving families and residents plenty to do beyond the games.

The tournaments are described as community events open to residents of the central sector. Specific venues, districts, field locations, and detailed schedules for each sport have not been announced beyond that they run during September, and no participation fees, ticket prices, or registration procedures have been specified in the available information.
