The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has begun the fourth phase of the capital's Main and Ring Road Axes Development Program, a major infrastructure push launched in mid-2026 to expand and modernize Riyadh's road network.
The phase carries a value of SAR 9.8 billion and covers four major road corridor projects. In total, the works span 40 km of road corridors and include 14 major interchanges, 33 bridges, 5 tunnels, and 6 pedestrian bridges. Once complete, the upgraded corridors are designed to serve more than 950,000 vehicles
The fourth phase is part of a broader plan to develop and upgrade over 500 km of the city's main and ring roads. It complements earlier phases of the program as well as other national road projects opened during 2026, reflecting Riyadh's steady, phased approach to easing traffic and improving mobility across the growing city.
Why it matters
For residents and commuters, the expansion aims to smooth daily journeys, reduce bottlenecks at key interchanges, and improve safety for both drivers and pedestrians through new bridges and dedicated pedestrian crossings. As construction advances, motorists in affected areas may encounter temporary works along the corridors.
No tolls, user fees, or usage charges specific to these upgraded axes have been announced for the fourth phase, and no special permits or passes are required for ordinary road users. The RCRC oversees the program and can be reached through its unified call center on 19998 for inquiries related to its projects.
