The multi‑billion‑riyal program to develop Riyadh's main and ring road axes continues to advance, with committed investments now surpassing SAR 30 billion across several project groups aimed at building an integrated road network throughout the capital.
The program covers more than 500 km of roads through the construction of new corridors and the upgrading of existing main routes. The first group of projects, announced in August 2024, carries a combined budget exceeding SAR 13 billion and is expected to be completed within three to four years. It includes four major projects: a 56 km Second Southern Ring Road featuring four main lanes in each direction, ten main intersections and 32 bridges; parallel bridges to the Wadi Laban suspension bridge along with a 4 km stretch of the Western Ring Road at Jeddah Road; a 6 km western section of the Thumama Road axis between King Khalid Road and King Fahd Road; and a 16 km extension of Taif Road from Laban to Qiddiya.
A second group comprises eight projects worth more than SAR 8 billion, with an implementation period of about three years. Package 3, announced in December 2025, adds six major projects exceeding SAR 8 billion and covering around 60 km of corridors, to be completed within three to four years. Its Jeddah Road Development Project spans 29 km, includes 14 bridges and five main lanes, with a design capacity of up to 353,000 vehicles
The Fourth Group, launched in June 2026 with a budget of SAR 9.8 billion, upgrades 40 km of corridors designed to handle up to 950,000 vehicles It includes the southern section of Sheikh Jaber Al‑Sabah Road, running 12 km with six main intersections, 22 bridges, three tunnels and a capacity of 350,000 vehicles daily.
For residents and commuters in Riyadh, the program promises smoother traffic flow, better connectivity between key districts, and improved access to major destinations as the capital's population and mobility needs continue to grow.
