SAR 1.6bn Terminal 4 Set for Jeddah Islamic Port

A major new investment of SAR 1.6 billion (about USD 434 million) has been announced to build Terminal 4 at Jeddah Islamic Port, adding up to 2.6 million TEUs of annual container handling capacity to one of the Kingdom's busiest maritime gateways.

The new terminal will be jointly developed and operated by Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) and CMA CGM Group under a sub-concession within RSGT's existing long-term concession with the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani). It forms part of the expansion option stipulated in the 2020 concession agreement for the port's northern sector.

Terminal 4 will be a new, separate, state-of-the-art container terminal located next to RSGT's existing facilities. It is designed with deep-water berths capable of receiving the largest container vessels in operation today and will be equipped with 10 new ship-to-shore cranes, alongside advanced terminal technologies, next-generation digital systems, and sustainability features built into the infrastructure and handling equipment.

Why it matters

Once Terminal 4 is complete, RSGT's total annual container handling capacity at Jeddah Islamic Port is set to rise to about 8.8 million TEUs, up from around 6.2 million TEUs currently. RSGT handled roughly 3.1 million TEUs at the port in 2024, meaning the expansion creates significant room for future trade growth.

The project is classified as one of the largest foreign direct investments in Saudi Arabia's maritime sector. For residents and businesses, greater port capacity supports smoother supply chains, wider shipping options, and stronger trade links serving Jeddah and the wider Kingdom. As of August 2026, no dedicated public e-service channel or Terminal 4-specific fees have been published beyond standard port and customs procedures.
