Nearly SAR 1bn Boost for Jeddah Islamic Port Logistics

The Saudi Cabinet reviewed the expansion of logistics hubs at Jeddah Islamic Port on 21 July 2026, spotlighting a wave of investment aimed at strengthening the Kingdom's role in regional trade and re-export.

The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) signed seven agreements in July 2026 to build and expand logistics centers at Jeddah Islamic Port and Al-Khumra Logistics Zone. Together, the deals represent nearly SAR 1 billion in investment and cover more than 44,000 square meters dedicated to storage, cargo consolidation, and re-export operations.

Saudi ports now host 34 logistics centers, including 17 at Jeddah Islamic Port, with cumulative investment exceeding SAR 14 billion. Among the latest additions, a Maersk logistics-center expansion adds 60,000 square meters of container and storage yards through a SAR 40 million investment.

Bigger capacity and cold storage

More than SAR 641 million was invested in Jeddah Islamic Port equipment and operating areas over a three-month period in 2026. The capacity boost includes three container cranes, 27 rubber-tyred gantry cranes, 91 terminal trucks, and seven ground-handling units. Container-terminal space is planned to grow by 200,000 square meters, while cold-storage capacity is set to rise from eight to 75 rooms.

Further expansion is planned through Terminal 4, where RSGT and CMA CGM announced an initial investment of about SAR 1.6 billion, with potential additional capacity of 2.6 million TEUs annually.

For businesses and residents, the upgrades point to faster cargo handling, more storage options, and stronger supply chains serving Jeddah and the wider region. Reported 2026 storage terms include 15 free days for transit containers, followed by SAR 6 charges from days 16 to 40, while transit general cargo and vehicles reportedly receive five free days ahead of SAR 10 charges. Exact tariff bases and charging units were not fully specified.
