Jeddah Islamic Port is set for a major expansion, with an initial investment of about SAR 1.6 billion (roughly USD 434 million) to develop and operate a new container facility known as Terminal 4. The project is a joint venture between Red Sea Gateway Terminal and CMA CGM Group, delivered under a long-term concession framework with the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani).
Terminal 4 is planned to add up to 2.6 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) of annual container handling capacity. It will feature deep-water berths designed to receive the world's largest container vessels, along with around 10 new ship-to-shore cranes and advanced cargo-handling systems. The development will also integrate digital and sustainable technologies aimed at improving operational efficiency and reliability.
The new terminal builds on earlier growth at the port. Following northern expansion phases, Red Sea Gateway Terminal's total annual handling capacity has already reached about 8.8 million TEU. In parallel, a separate South Container Terminal upgrade program valued at around SAR 3 billion (about USD 800 million) has more than doubled that terminal's capacity from 1.8 million TEU to 4 million TEU, with a future scalable target of about 5 million TEU.
Wider logistics push
Beyond the terminals, the port is being connected to the Al-Khumrah Logistics Park through a direct corridor of about 17 kilometres with multiple bridges, a move expected to raise handling capacity by roughly 10 percent. Logistics center agreements worth close to SAR 1 billion will add more than 380,000 square metres of warehousing, storage, consolidation and re-export space. Adjacent to the South Container Terminal, a Jeddah Logistics Park of about 415,000 square metres is under development, with completion targeted around the second quarter of 2026.
For residents and businesses, the expansion points to faster cargo movement, stronger trade links and expanded logistics opportunities around Jeddah. Corporate, concession and investment matters related to the port are handled through official ministry platforms and Mawani's channels.
