Mawani Signs SAR 1bn Deals to Expand Jeddah Port

The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has signed seven contracts worth nearly SAR 1 billion with national and international companies to build and expand logistics centers at Jeddah Islamic Port and the Al-Khumra logistics zone, boosting the Kingdom's port-based logistics capacity in line with رؤية السعودية 2030 and the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.

The new centers span about 384,000 square meters dedicated to storage, consolidation, and re-export activities, and are expected to create more than 5,000 direct and indirect jobs. With these agreements, the total number of port-based logistics centers in the Kingdom has reached 34 — 17 of them at Jeddah Islamic Port — with cumulative investments exceeding SAR 14 billion.

Bigger cargo capacity

Mawani's ongoing program at Jeddah Islamic Port includes an additional SAR 641 million to expand cargo handling. This covers three new ship-to-shore cranes, 17–27 rubber-tyred gantry cranes, 91 terminal trucks, seven ground-handling units, an extra 200,000 square meters of terminal space, and a major increase in cold storage and reefer capacity for refrigerated cargo.

A separate SAR 3 billion expansion of the South Container Terminal raises capacity from 1.8 million to 4 million TEUs, while an initial SAR 1.6 billion investment to develop Terminal 4 is set to add up to 2.6 million TEUs annually with deep-water berths and new cranes.

Across all Saudi ports, sector investments have surpassed SAR 30 billion over the past five years, with more than SAR 5.5 billion from the private sector during the recent regional crisis period. Jeddah Islamic Port is a key البحر الأحمر hub, as Mawani targets total national port capacity of over 40 million TEUs by 2030 and a 45% share of regional transshipment traffic.

For residents and businesses, the expansion means faster handling of goods, stronger supply chains, and more job opportunities in the logistics sector.
