Public schools in Riyadh will begin the 1448–1449 academic year on Sunday, 10 Rabiʿ al‑Awwal 1448 AH, corresponding to 23 August 2026, with teachers returning a week earlier on Sunday, 3 Rabiʿ al‑Awwal 1448 AH (16 August 2026). The two‑semester model continues for the year, with a holiday structure similar to the previous one.
Working hours for public schools will shift across four periods during the year. In the summer schedule, running from 23 August 2026 (10 Rabiʿ al‑Awwal 1448 AH) to 5 November 2026 (25 Jumada al‑Ula 1448 AH), the morning assembly begins at 6:15 a.m. and the first class at 6:30 a.m.
The winter schedule applies from 8 November 2026 (28 Jumada al‑Ula 1448 AH) to 7 February 2027 (30 Shaʿban 1448 AH), with the morning assembly at 6:45 a.m. and the first class at 7:00 a.m. During Ramadan, from 1 Ramadan 1448 AH (8 February 2027) to 18 Ramadan 1448 AH (25 February 2027), the first class begins at 9:00 a.m.
After Eid al‑Fitr, schools return to the summer schedule from 6 Shawwal 1448 AH (14 March 2027) until 19 Muharram 1449 AH (24 June 2027), with the morning assembly again at 6:15 a.m. and the first class at 6:30 a.m.
The Riyadh dates align with the national general‑education calendar for 1448–1449 AH, which follows the two‑semester roadmap and sets out term start dates, breaks and the end‑of‑year vacation. Knowing the shifting daily start times helps families in Riyadh plan school runs, transport and morning routines well ahead of the new year.
