Imam University Jumps 300 Spots in ARWU 2026

Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh has recorded a notable rise in the 2026 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), moving into the 601–700 global band after placing in the 901–1000 band in 2025 — an improvement of roughly 300 positions in a single year.

The university, a public institution based in Riyadh, appears in the 2026 ARWU table with its institution page confirming the 601–700 category. The year-on-year jump within the same ranking system marks one of the clearer advances among Saudi universities in this edition.

The upward trend is echoed in other 2026 global frameworks, where the university sits in broadly comparable tiers — around the 851–900 band in the QS World University Rankings, roughly 601 in the Times Higher Education table, and a world rank of about 1767 in CWUR. Together these results point to a gradual, sustained rise in international standing, with the standout 300-place leap recorded specifically in ARWU.

Why it matters

ARWU is compiled independently by its provider using academic and research performance indicators. The ranking process does not involve any government e-service platform, and it does not set or change tuition or admission fees in Saudi Riyals for the university.

For students, faculty, and families in Riyadh and across the Kingdom, a higher global ranking can strengthen the university's academic profile and reputation, supporting research visibility and international recognition. The result also reflects the broader push under Saudi Vision 2030 to raise the standing of the country's higher education institutions on the world stage.
